iPhone Turn By Turn GPS…Eventually
no commentsAs many have noticed, the iPhone’s GPS is a convenient way of looking up maps but is nowhere close to being a replacement for your TomTom. The main features missing are turn by turn instructions as well as the voice system, both of which are very important when on the road. Several big GPS companies are interested in making the software…but they’ll have to wait for Apple’s blessing.
TomTom has already made a navigation for the iPhone that “looks good and works very well,.” Garmin and Magellan, on the other hand, do not have current plans yet but are looking into it.
The Apple SDK, however, forbids developing GPS software, perhaps because Apple wants to make the app itself. All we can say for sure is that a turn-by-turn GPS app is not out of the question, and even to be expected.
