Forget Sprite and Coke - how about iPod and headphones? Best Buy is working with Zoom Systems to bring Best Buy vending machines to a few terminals at the Dallas/Fortworth Airport. Swipe in a credit card, press a few buttons, and that iPod is yours.

Personally, I don’t see the merits in this plan. How many travelers are there who forget a cable or need another set of headphones? No doubt there will be an occassional one or two, but it’ll take quite a bit of time before the occasional sale covers even the overhead.

The gadgets are over-priced, no doubt, an offspring of both the vending-machine and airport-shop style of pricing. For the desperate consumer, though, the extra bucks might be worth it in a tight jam.
